Through the first decade of the Twentieth Century, the 2-8-0 Consolidation was the standard wheel arrangement for most mainline freight steam locomotives. Soon after, the Consolidation was relegated to switching and branch line use, where it enjoyed a long career, with some lasting well into the final days of steam in the 1950s.The die-cast Lionel Consolidation is based on a 2-8-0 type developed by the Associated Railroads in 1902. Accurately rendered and featuring many separately applied details, these scale-sized Standard O engines are made to accompany Lionel Standard O Rolling Stock, but they are also well-suited for Traditional Rolling Stock..
